Road & Bridge Winter Operations

BOUNDARY COUNTY ROAD & BRIDGE WINTER OPERATIONS
6:00 AM - 4:30 PM Monday-Sunday
Winter Schedule Begins December 27, 2021
Winter Schedule ends April 5, 2022
Please see attachment below for R&B Letter to Boundary County Residents in regards to winter road maintenance

During or after a snowstorm, graders and truck-plows are dispatched to each of the seven road maintenance areas which make up the county road system.
In addition, loader-mounted plows work the more populated areas around town and sand trucks are sent out to sand identified danger areas, including hills, intersections and curves. This work continues for the duration of the storm as needed. Sanding is on-going throughout winter as needed, with major hills getting applications of salt.
School bus routes and turnarounds are given first priority during winter storms, along with hills, curves, intersections and emergency routes. During periods of sustained snowfall, even if the snowfall is relatively light, Boundary County Road and Bridge may not be able to keep up with Mother Nature. Please be patient and slow down.
During a major storm, plows may open only one lane and then return to widen roads when conditions permit. After a major snowstorm, cleanup operations will be on-going for several days. Snowplows have the right-of-way. When approaching plowing equipment from the front, pull over and allow the plow to pass. Snowplows make frequent stops and backup maneuvers. When approaching snow removal equipment from the rear, travel a minimum of 200 feet behind allowing for abrupt movements.
Normal snow removal operations may result in snow being deposited in private drives. Residents are responsible for clearing snow from private drives and sidewalks. Per Idaho State law, snow from private drives shall not be placed on the county roadway or shoulders. Do not plow snow from driveways onto or across County Roads.
The Sheriff's Department should be contacted for all EMERGENCIES (911) requiring plowing or sanding. Plow equipment will not be dispatched away from regular routes or called in for extra duty unless it is a fire or medical emergency coordinated through the Sheriff's Department. Decisions to plow and/or sand will be made by the County Road & Bridge Supervisor or Road Foreman.
** Some variations in the above policy may be necessary as special snow conditions arise.
